Light Painting Photography Q&A
Q: What can be light-painted?
A: Any item, from the smallest piece of machinery or jewelry to a fairly large building, can be light-painted. Some of the endless possibilities are shown here on our website, but it can be almost anything.

Q: Can I, members of my family, or my employees, be in the light painting?
A: Absolutely! Whenever people (or pets) are in the light painting, we do that part first, before it gets too dark. It only takes a short time to photograph that portion of the light painting. Then, you can relax and have fun watching, or even assisting, while Michael and Joannie create your artwork.
When everything is completed, you'll have the option of two light paintings. One with you in it, and one without.
Q: How do I make something cool like this happen?
A: Whenever possible, you'll meet with me (Michael) to discuss your subject(s) and ideas and to plan the photo shoot in more detail. Out-of-state projects can begin with a simple phone call or text.
The photography location may have to be scouted ahead of time (sometimes just earlier on the actual day of the session). That way, we can find the best angles and the best vantage point for your image creation.

Q: How long does it take to do the photography portion of a light painting?
A: The time it takes to create a light painting will vary depending on the size and complexity of the subject, as well as the size and scope of the location. Typically, for most outdoor locations, it takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to complete the photography part of your light painting.

Q: What will it cost to create my light painting?
A: Since every light-painted subject and its location are unique, the time and expense needed to complete the process are determined by its complexity.
The Creation Fee for in-studio projects starts at $300. For cars, trucks, and smaller aircraft, it is typically $1200. Very large items, and on-location photo shoots that require travel will be more. The light painting Creation Fee is independent of any Metal Prints that you order.

Q: When will my finished artwork be ready for me to see?
A: Your one-of-a-kind light painting is typically ready to review within 10 to 14 working days after the photography session. The beautifully printed versions, printed on aluminum, are typically ready in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Q: Can I get a gift certificate for one of these?
A: Yes, gift certificates are available by contacting us by phone or by using the contact form above. Gift certificates may be purchased for any amount.

Q: How can I find out more?
A: I, Michael, will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Just call me on the studio landline at 763-785-1177, or on my cell phone at 763-443-9474 (texting is fine too). Or, drop me an email at: Michael@adesignerportraits.com.
You may also visit the studio to talk with me and see real metal prints on display. There is no charge for this visit. Please call ahead for an appointment. We look forward to working with you to create the photograph of a lifetime!
